Let It Snow WordPress Plugin

To feel the spirit of Christmas, I added the Let It Snow plugin on my blogs. Just watching the falling snow on my monitor, entertains me and it puts a smile on my face. I hope it does the same thing to my visitors. Even we don’t get snow here in the Philippines, virtually we could do anything and it is free to dream.

Though I rarely produce pictures or posts worth stealing, I just don’t like it when someone uses it without my permission or not even giving credit to the rightful owners. My friends are often victim of these and I a few. Watermarking images doesn’t seem enough, so good thing I found a plugin that would protect me from those people.

Please if you wanted to use pictures or writings done by someone, ask their permission.

Disqus on WordPress

I recently found out the advantages of Disqus, so I made this a-must plugin on every blog I have.

What are the advantages?

You could administrate all comments on your blogs in just one page, and you could reply there as well.
You could promote your site by making it your URL and you could change your name to the keyword you wanted.
No room for spammers.

Google Wave Embed Test

I was amazed by the power of the Google Wave, so I wanted to try a few of its features.

The best thing to try is how to embed it on a blog or website. My adventure on this task started of me searching for possible ways to put a Wave on my blog. In the process, I was able to find a plugin for WordPress. I installed and tested it, but it didn’t give a satisfactory result. So I continued searching and found a discussion that helped me embed a wave.

Here’s my test wave:

I am happy with the help that I got from the discussion. I really learned a lot.

WP-StatPress

I have heard about this statistic plug-in for WordPress. Since Google Analytics would require you to log in to their page to see the stats, it would be time consuming. So a less hassle would be having a statistic on your WordPress blog dashboard and WP-StatPress is the plug-in that does that.

Steps:

Download the plug-in from http://www.irisco.it/?page_id=28
Unzip it and put the wp-statpress on your WordPress plug-in through FTP (../wp-content/plugins)
Log-in to yourWordpress account, go to Plugins.
Look for StatPress, then click activate.
DONE

Now, you would see StatPress on your Dashboard.

Akismet

Akismet is a pre-installed (already in WordPress upon installation) wordpress plugin. Recently, they have an updated version of it. It is a plugin that filters spam messages from the comments on your blog.

Steps in using this plugin:

Log-in to your wordpress account.
Go to Plugins
Look for Akismet (usually it is the top one). Click Activate
Once the plugin has been activated, you will be instructed to put your WordPress API (click). If you have no account on wordpress.com, you have to create one.
Log-in to your wordpress.com account >> click My Account >> My Profile. You will then see your WordPress API, just copy it and paste it on Akismet Configuration.
Click “Update Option.”

Google SiteMap on WordPress

I added WordPress on the title, because honestly I do not know how to put or create a sitemap on my own. A sitemap is a tool which helps search engine crawl your site easily. This is best for SEO.

Steps:

Download the sitemap generator for wordpress at http://www.arnebrachhold.de/projects/wordpress-plugins/google-xml-sitemaps-generator/
Unzip the downloaded file.
Using FTP, upload the google-sitemap-generator folder in your wordpress plugin (/wp-content/plugins)
If everything has been uploaded, log in to your wordpress account.
Go to Plugins, look for Google XML Sitemaps. Click Activate.
Once the plugin has been activated, click “Options” >> “XML-Sitemap”
Build your sitemap by clicking the “click here” on the instructions.
Now, you have created a sitemap.
All you need to do is add it on your Google webmaster tools, for Google to work on it.
Log in to your Google webmaster account https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/siteoverview
Input your website into the text box, then click ADD SITE
Once added, below the sitemap, click “add”
Choose type: “Add General Web Sitemap”
Input sitemap.xml on the text box, click “Add General Web Sitemap”

Another great plugin by Lester ‘GaMerZ’ Chan, for your wordpress blog. To the number of visitors who have viewed the post. I just installed mine after WP-PostRatings (Check at the bottom of the post).

You could get the plugin at Lester Chan’s Programming Portfolio.
Look for the “WordPress Plugin: WP-PostViews” and download the latest version.
Check the documentation for instructions on how to install the plugin.
Unzip the downloaded file.
Use FTP and upload the “postviews” folder into your wp-content/plugins folder.
Log in to your wordpress admin account >> Plugins >> activate the WP-PostViews plugin.
Go to Presentation >> Theme Editor >> find ” ” below it, add “ ” to the place where you want the number of views to show.
