Smart Bro Plug-it Iloilo

I just got my Smart Bro Plug-it yesterday and this morning I tested it in the office. Here’s my first test of its speed. This is the speed for a full bars GPRS / EDGE connection.

I was really disappointed and can’t believe of the result, so in a matter of minutes, I tested it again and there was a big difference. This is the speed for a full bar 3G / HSDPA connection.

Somehow this gives me a relief, but then again, there’s only a few spots in Iloilo that HSDPA is available.

Though I am currently generally satisfied with their service, I have had a problem with them in the past and I put my experience in a post, Smart Bro Downtime A Downer.

Oh, I am thinking of canceling my subscription on this one. It is a pain for me.

Just would like to point out the Smart Bro service that Roy Sencio writes about has very little to do with the Smart Bro Plug It product which uses Smart’s 3G network.

Junelle, the speed test you have is par for the course for a GPRS signal which is usually only about 56K. You should connect to a 3G (384kbps) or HSDPA signal (1.8 mbps). I’m familiar with the two plug it models, both of them can be set to lock to UMTS in the setting menu. Don’t select the setting that allows the modem to choose between GSM and UMTS, select UMTS only.

For my own speedtests, see my review at http://jimayson.com

The most kulelat mobile internet of them all? Globe Visibility (as the test shows).

I guess it depends on what area, because I tried using my Globe sim to browse the internet using N90 connected to my Laptop, Globe is FAST unlike SMART Plug-it that I currently use which is slower than Dial-Up connection.
I will soon have smart bro plan 999 at home, so I will be checking if it will have a bearable connection.
